What Are Spicules?!
A new (yet ancient) technique in the realm of beauty uses hydrolyzed marine sponge or coral, of which thousands of microscopic needles are extracted. These are called "Spicules". This treatment is referred to as "liquid microneedling" and is a less invasive yet similarly effective alternative to traditional microneedling. For centuries Traditional Korean Medicine has utilized spicules for skincare purposes. Recent studies for medical and cosmetic purposes have made for a resurgence of these ancient microscopic helpers (and yes, they are actually small enough to penetrate into the epidermis and do their magic - unlike other sharp edged exfoliation ingredients like walnut shells).
Liquid microneedling with spicules allows for a deeper and more effective penetration of magical bio-available ingredients, my favorite being cellulose rich marine organisms like Algae that are known for encouraging hydration in the skin and deliver super strength antioxidants - all of which strengthens the skins barrier.
I am all about maintaining a healthy skin barrier and biome - some peels that are acid based can simply eat away at a healthy barrier and imo cause more harm than good....luckily the Green Sea Peel is a wonderful alternative as we head into peel season! When absorbed by the skin spicules themselves actually release a plethora of vitamins and minerals like silica (which lots of us lack since we're usually not drinking fresh spring water filtered by the earth).
They encourage collagen production since they are causing micro-injuries (exactly like microneedling), oxygenate the skin by increasing blood flow, and are antimicrobial and antibacterial.
All in all the Green Sea Peel does A LOT (thanks for reading my deep dive hehe). It resurfaces, increases collagen and elastin production, helps with melasma, unclogs pores, and is safe for all skin types and pregnant and breastfeeding mamas.
